Elaboration of Executive Presentation of Infrastructure costs for an SAP Migration project from On-Premises to AWS

In this project based on a real-world scenario, I acted as a Cloud Architect and created an executive presentation of infrastructure costs for a SAP migration project from On-Premises to AWS.

SAP workloads were running in a corporate DataCenter with the environment divided into Production, Quality Assurance — QA and Development/Test layers.

My mission was to estimate the costs of migration to AWS, considering that this infrastructure will be running on AWS for at least the next 3 years.

I used the AWS Calculator for getting estimates for the Production, Stage and Development/testing environments which has Application Servers (EC2 Instances), Load Balancer, Block Storage, NFS Storage, Elastic File System and Oracle Database. Added the Enterprise Support Plan also to the estimate as the SAP application is business critical and the CIO want to have premium support. In case they have issues the business wants to engage AWS Support as the SLA and response time of less than 15 minutes.

The same architecture on on-premises can cost atleast 25 to 30% more and even more depending on city, cost of maintenance etc and the numbers on Cloud architecture is very attractive for the companies.

Exported the estimates as a .csv file to get breakdown for Monthly cost and First 12 Months for the infrastructure.

Finally prepared the presentation in Microsoft Power Point to present the numbers to the Management for their approval.
